Back to School

Back to School

It’s that time of year again! Back to school we go. Can you even believe it?! I still can’t get over how quickly the summer goes, even though it seems it goes this fast every single year.

For those of you who have kids, it’s that time of year again. It’s time for school supply shopping and getting your kids excited to get back into the school year grind.

Sometimes kids aren’t that excited to go back to school when summer comes to a close, but there are ways to get them a bit more pumped up.

1. Take them school supply shopping with you. Rather than just buying what is on their list, take them with you to choose the items. If they need no. 2 pencils, let them choose ones with colors or patterns that excite them. Notebooks? Let them choose which ones. If they are part of the process, they will be more excited to use the products purchased.

2. They may have already been doing so, but try to schedule play dates for the kids a few days prior to starting back. If they have play time with other kids that will be in their grade or that they will see in school, they will be more interested in going back, knowing they are seeing their friends.

3. Ask your kids what they would like to eat for dinner their first week back to school, in honor of summer ending and fall beginning. Of course, if they say fried food each night, make a spin on it (fried chicken = chicken with reduced fat bread crumbs, etc). This way, they’ll be excited to get to school and excited to get home for dinner and to discuss their day.

All my best,

Kristen Riddle, Pharm.D.
